Planning for 2025
I have so many ideas racing around my head but one thing I know for sure is that next growing season will be better planned!
What will I be keeping?
A nice, big potato bed. I really enjoyed eating my homegrown potatoes this year.
Brassicas. Again, I’ve enjoyed eating these this season but also feel pride at how well they have grown on my plot. Easy to grow and delicious.
Onions. I’m hoping for more success with onions next year as they really didn’t grow well for me this year. I am planning to plant pretty soon so they have a much longer time in the ground.
Peas, beans and carrots. These have been prolific for me this year. And nothing beats the taste of a pea straight from the pod!
Rhubarb. This was only planted last year so I am looking forward to finally being able to harvest it next year.
What will I be changing / adding?
Garlic. This is something that I have previously been growing in my garden at home but now that I have the gift of space I will be planting this alongside my onions. I can’t wait to see how big the elephant garlic grows with all that space!
Adding more raspberry and strawberry varieties. I have already ordered these from Moore Berries. They do some great bundles of bare roots to ensure you have fruits for a prolonged period of time.
A small polytunnel type structure (hopefully!). I am desperate for a more controlled and warm environment to try and grow bigger and juicier tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers.
A tea garden! For any of you who visited the Gardener’s World Autumn Show earlier this year you will have seen the ‘Fancy a Cuppa’ garden developed by The Cockney Gardener. I will be taking inspiration from his garden and putting aside a bed to grow a mixture of plants and flowers that can be used for teas. Think mint (controlled somehow!), chamomile, ginger, lemon grass, echinacea…
Flowers. I had a couple of spare beds that I didn’t use this year so would like to introduce more flowers so that I can keep my vases topped up all Spring and Summer long.
I’d also like to see where I can fit in some corn and some asparagus…
The first draft of my 2025 allotment plan.
